Feast or Famine
By Alwyn Lloyd
Maindy Whites 1-0 Lisvane Blue
Maindy Whites 3-0 Lisvane Black
Maindy Whites 0-1 Cardiff Crusaders
With a near full contingent of players available, the coaches divided the boys into two sides giving a half to each team. In the first game the Maindy attack peppered the Lisvane Blue goal from start to finish, with the opposition goalie outstanding to frustrate the Corries. Ultimately though the pressure told and Kian nipped in to win the game in the second half.
Maindy continued in dominating possession and territory in the second game, this time with greater return. Geggers made the breakthrough in the first half, with Ollie Clark outstanding in attack in the second half, bagging two goals. The first of which from a neat through ball from Dan Withey, and the second an unstoppable shot. A word about Matthew Williams, who as well as defending stoutly, was denied the goal of the season by the woodwork, with a Cantona-esque, chest, knee, turn and volley.
Against a more physical Crusaders side, both Maindy teams struggled to exert the same domination as the first two games. Honours were even, when a speculative long range effort found its way into the corner. As a lesson, in tight games such as this, we need to take our chances.
