History to Maindy Corries
-
Formed July 2001
-
Founders - Declan Joyce and Wayne Harvey (staff at Maindy Swimming Pool)
-
The name Corries is an abbreviation of The Corinthians, who were a church side that played its home games at Maindy Stadium
-
The Corinthians donated two kits to Maindy, which enabled Wayne and Declan to form a number of five-a-side teams
-
In 2001 the U12 five-a-side team reached the final of the Neighborhood Watch tournament and became "the champions of champions" at the Millennium Stadium
-
Following this success both coaches wanted to build on this and decided to form a junior football club at Maindy Swimming Pool
-
Maindy Corries sides were registered with the Cardiff and District League in July 2001 and the club began to take shape
-
At present, as it embarks on its sixth season, the club has seventeen sides playing in the junior section of the Cardiff and District League - two U8s, two U9s, three U10s, three U11s, two U12's, two U13's, two U14's and an U15 side
-
The club has secured links with St Josephs FC, creating a pathway for junior players to make a successful transition to senior football
