Here you will find directions to the majority of the venues used by Maindy Corries. For most venues there is a brief guide to getting to the ground as well as a map from the multimap website (click on the venue title to launch map).For an interactive map, please see my Google Map. I have made further progress in adding venues - partly by looking at Heath Park Rangers guide (thanks Doug!), but if there are any still missing and you know the directions please email me or add a comment to this page or post on the messageboard
Blackweir Sports Ground Blackweir sports ground is located next to the Ambulance station off North Road on the way out of the City Centre. Turn left into the pay and display car park just before the traffic lights with the junction of Colum Road (or turn right almost immediately after the lights if coming into the City Centre) and park here. Walk down the slope past the Ambulance Station to reach the sports field.
Caedelyn Park Caedelyn Park is accessed from Manor Way. Come down Manor Way from Coryton and the entrance is on the left before you get to the Masons Arms / Tesco Express garage junction with Tyn-y-Parc Road. Parc Caedelyn is the large sports ground with Pavilion that is behind the Masons and is off the area also known as Ash Grove.
Cefn Onn School Follow instructions to Llanishen High and turn opposite the High School into Templeton Avenue. Cefn Onn is on the same site as a Welsh School on the right after about half mile. Coed Glas School Off Ty Glas Avenue in Llanishen
Court Field
Court Field is located near to The Court School in Llanishen. Follow Station Road out of Llanishen towards Lisvane and turn right just before the railway bridge (opposite the station) into a lane which is signposted Private Road. Follow this to the end where you will see the field.
Danescourt Junior School To be added Glider Field Glider Field is the pitch next to Llanishen Leisure Centre.
Glyncoed School Glyncoed School is in Pentwyn on the opposite side of the road to the Hollybush Pub. If coming from Cyncoed, go down Hollybush Road to the mini roundabout and turn left into Glyncoed Road. From the A48 take the Pentwyn turn off and go down past Pentwyn Leisure Centre turning left at the end of the road. Follow this up to the junction and turn right. Go up the hill and straight across at the roundabout into Glyncoed Road. From the roundabout, the school is a few hundred yards down on the right opposite Forsythia Drive.
Greenway Road Go up Rumney Hill to traffic lights at the top - by shopping area. Turn right here right down to bottom, turn left into Greenway Rd, go half way up Greenway Rd turning Right into Harris Avenue - you will see an entrance into the fields on your right as you are driving along
Hailey Park Driving from Llandaff through Llandaff North turn left into Hazelhurst Avenue. At the end of Hazelhurst Avenue you should see Llandaff North Rugby Club,Turn Left and you come to the entrance to a large car park in the trees on the right. The mini-football goals are just behind the trees. Heath Park No mini pitches as at 2005/6. Two pitches are near the old sports centre and one more near the King George V Gates. The pitches on the school fields are administered by the Local Education Authority are titled Heath School Pitch.
Llandaff Fields This is the big park which is at the end of Cathedral Road. Where Pen-Hill Road meets Cathedral Road there is a small road off into the park and you will find a car park. Some people also park on the main road - can get busy. Pitches are normally on the left, but be prepared for a long walk!!
Llanederyn High School From the A48 take the exit for Llanederyn and take the exit from the roundabout for Llanedeyrn. Go straight over the first round about and you will then go up a short hill, take your next right and follow the road around until you get to the shops. There is a turning right by the shops which is also the road for the school. Follow this to the end. Llanishen High School Drive up Heol Hir from Llanishen. School is half way up opposite Templeton Avenue. Llanishen Park is located just off Newborough Avenue close to Llanishen Village. Travelling out of Cardiff on Caerphilly Road (A469) turn right at Caerphilly crossroads onto Ty Glas Road. Travel past Safeways/Morrisons on your right hand side and the Tax Office entrance until you reach a set of traffic lights. Turn left at the lights which is still Ty Glas Road. Take the next turning left onto Newborough Avenue. The gates are just on the left-hand side. The pitches are located at the rear of the park. There are parking spaces at the end of the track next to the changing rooms.
The Marl The Marl is the park next to the Channel View leisure centre in Grangetown. You can enter either via Ferry Road or Channel View Road (which is easier to park in).
Moorland Park Moorland Park is opposite the Moorland Primary School. At the junction of Moorland Road and Splott Road, go straight cross into Hinton Street and turn first left into Singleton Road or second left into Neath Street where there are entrances to the park.
Morganstown From the A470 take the exit for Radyr and Morganstown and follow the road to Morganstown. The ground is next to Morganstown Rugby Club which is also next to Pugh's Garden Centre. Due to complaints from Pugh's parents are asked to park in Fford Tremorgan next to the Ty Nant public house. A pelican crossing is available to cross the road to the pitches. To get to the New Road pitch... coming from Rumney Hill turn left into New Road, drive slowly otherwise you will miss it , it will be on your right about 400 yards up the road. If by any chance you do bypass it look out for Brachdy Close, a small estate, and then double back about 100 yards and New Road pitches will be around 100 yards from there, just past the bus stop.
Peter Lea School Peter Lea School is in Fairwater and the school fence is visible from Pwllmelin Road although the school is not accessible from Pwllmelin Road. If coming from Fairwater Rugby Club end (The Bulldog) follow Pwllmelin Road towards Llandaff and take the second left by the shops into Keyston Road. If coming from Llandaff, go past Rookwood and carry on until you go over the railway bridge then Keyston Road is the second right by the shops. Once in Keyston Road, take the second left into Carter Place (Church on corner) and follow this to the end where you will drive into the school. Pentrebane School This is at the top of Pentrebane near the Jug and Bottle Pub. From Llandaff, follow Fairwater Road past Rookwood Hospital down to the Bulldog (Fairwater Rugby Club). Turn left then immediate right up Waterhall Road and take the second main left into Beechly Drive. The school is about a mile on the left. Just a little further on than Llandaff fields. As you drive down from Llandaff Road to Cathedral Road go straight on as Cathedral Road bears right (just after Llandaff Fields car park. The road takes you to Pontcanna Car Park - you should pass the "Electricity Club" on the left. The pitches in Pontprennau are by the community centre, which is on Pontprennau Road. Pontprennau Road is actually a collection of different roads that run right through Pontprennau. If you want to get from one side to another just follow the road! Anyway, the community centre is off this road. Park up in the community centre car park and the pitches are behind the centre across a path. Please do not park on the verge along the main road as clubs have been warned that the police will book cars along here. Roath Rec This is the Wellfield Road end of Roath Park. There are a number of pitches along the open fields. Dead easy to see and find. The pitch is in Canton. Head down Sloper Rd past Ninian Park on left, 200yds after next set of traffic lights turn left by petrol station. The pitches are on the right.
Splott Park From town, head for Clifton Street in Splott, from here you need to head to the end of the road and turn left into Splott Road. Follow the road round to the right past the Star Leisure Centre. The road bears round to the left under a railway bridge. Just after the bridge you will see Splott Park on your left. Parking is available in the sports centre. Post Code for venue is CF3 0EX, for those with Sat Nav. For those that don't, the field is behind the Tesco Superstore in St Mellons. If you come from a town direction, you need to go along Newport Road, through Rumney. You then come to a roundabout, turn right into Llanewrwg Way. Follow that round to a roundabout and turn left into Willowbrook Drive. Follow this road (Tesco Superstore will be on your right) and take a right-hand turn into Crickhowell Road. Follow this road, you go over a roundabout and shortly after this, look out for Brockhampton Road on your right. The pitch is at the end of this road. The other way is if coming form the A48M dual carriage way. Take turning off for St Mellons (turning after the Asda turn-off). At the roundabout (a big one!), turn right. Follow this road to the roundabout, turn left into Llanewrwg Way [Thanks to Heath Park Rangers for this one!] Thornhill Park Off Excaliber drive, Thornhill. Drive towards Sainburys on Excaliber drive and take the left turn into Glenmont way, Marked with a no-through road sign. The pitches are on your left. Coming from town, head for Ely along Cowbridge Road West. About a mile up the road there are some traffic lights to go into Farm Foods and Aldi's (Vincent Road). Take this turning and bear round to the left and you will see the sign for Trelai Fields. Tremorfa Park is where St Albans rugby club is situated. Coming from Newport Road, if you turn left at the junction where TGI Fridays is situated, over the railway bridge and then turn right onto Pengam Road / Tremorfa. From here Tremorfa Park is signposted and is the second left (Kenyon Road). University Fields Follow the directions to Llanrumney High School going out of Cardiff along Newport Road. The University field is just to the left of the school.
Waterhall The Waterhall pitches are at Fairwater Leisure Centre. On St Fagans Road heading towards St Fagans, turn right at the traffic lights at the green into Plasmawr Rd, keep going straight (the road becomes Waterhall Rd and you will eventually come to the Leisure centre on the left. Drive past Pentwyn Leisure Centre on Bryn Celyn Road. You could park in the Leisure Centre but its a long walk to the pitches. At the end of Bryn Celyn (turn right) you should see the pitch which is next to Waun Fach road (on left). Whitchurch High School The site with the football pitches on is the upper school on Penlline Road and Church Road (not the site on Manor Way). The entrance is on Penlline Road and the exit on Church Road. When you enter the school follow the road until you see the pitches.
Whitchurch Hospital The pitches are set up in the main grounds of Whitchurch Hospital which is on Park Road in Whitchurch (The main road between Coryton and Whitchurch Village). The fields are at the back of the grounds but it is easier to park in the car park near the entrance to the hospital as it gets quite busy towards the back nearer the pitches.
Willows High School Willows High School is located at the very end of Willows Avenue and the easiest way of getting there is to turn into Seawall Road from Rover Way, follow this past the ASW plant right to the very end and turn right into South Park Road near Splott Park. Take the first right into Willows Avenue and drive straight down into the school car park.
